Scientists Might Be Able To REVIVE THE TASMANIA TIGER Thanks To The Endangered NUMBAT
Scientists from @universitywa might be able to bring back the Tasmanian tiger, thanks to the endangered numbat! While mapping numbat DNA to understand and hopefully cure the genetic diseases that threaten the species, scientists gained a blueprint for the Tasmanian tiger.
As both animals shared a common ancestor 35 – 41 million years ago, their DNA is very similar. This means scientists would be able to clone the Tasmanian tiger from the numbat DNA sequence. However, before undertaking this Jurassic task, they want to ensure the safety and survival of currently endangered species like the numbat.
