The IUCN has announced that both species of African elephant are now endangered. The rapid decline in numbers is due to continuous poaching as well as the removal of habitats. The Forest elephant has been labelled as ‘critically endangered’, with their numbers dropping by at least 86% between 1984 and 2015.
