⚖️CLIMATE CHANGE LITIGATION Has Been Dealt A MAJOR BLOW With This FEDERAL COURT Ruling
The Federal Court has ruled that the Australian Government does not have a duty of care for future generations when considering and approving policies and projects relating to climate change and fossil fuels. This comes after the environment minister, Sussan Ley, appealed a landmark ruling from July 2021, which stated that the government did have a duty of care to protect young people against the impact and potential harms of climate change. The ruling was overturned, with all three judges finding the links between specific policies and the threat of direct harm to young people being too difficult to define and measure. The decision can still be appealed in the high court.
