Good News! CORAL Coverage In The GREAT BARRIER REEF Has Increased By Almost FORTY Percent!
According to a new report from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, coral coverage in the Great Barrier Reef has increased by 39 percent during the 2020-2021 period!
Thanks to no major cyclones or ‘prolonged high sea temperatures’, the reefs have been able to slowly start their recovery. With the report stating that a month-long increase of just one degree ‘above normal summer maximum sea temperature’ can cause severe coral bleaching. Green zones are also to thank, preventing fishing in certain areas and instead enabling ecosystems to once again thrive across the reef.
Let’s just hope this coral coverage percentage rises with each new year!
