Engineers Just Invented The World’s First CARBON NEUTRAL CEMENT ♂️
Did you know that concrete production accounts for 8% of global carbon emissions? Well, engineers over at @cuboulder are aiming to fix that by inventing the world’s first carbon neutral cement! A key ingredient in cement production is limestone, which produces a massive amount of carbon in quarrying and heating it for cement. The engineers have found an algae that can capture carbon and turn it into limestone. While it still needs to be heated, the carbon this would produce is the same amount that was captured by the algae in the first place!
