Discarded OYSTER Shells Are Being RECYCLED To Create Shellfish Reefs In MORETON BAY!
Oyster shells typically end end up in landfill as they’re unable to decompose and can’t be composted. Luckily, OzFish are relocating discarded oyster shells into Queensland’s Moreton Bay to create new shellfish reefs!
Similarly to coral reefs, oyster reefs provide the fundamental structures needed for marine plants and animals to survive and thrive.
Recycling these oyster shells will ultimately help restructure and restore the coastal landscape, increasing fish (and shellfish) numbers exponentially.
Did you know that oyster shells could be recycled to create these shellfish reefs?!
