Scientists Discover The Reason Why VAMPIRE BATS DRINK BLOOD
A recent study published in @sciencemagazine has found out why vampire bats have not only a unique diet amongst bats but also among all other mammals. Blood is incredibly low calorie, making it a terrible food source for anything other than a few insects. But vampire bats, due to having 13 different genes from other bats, have adapted to need a diet that is high in iron and protein but low in fats and carbs. This makes blood a perfect food source for them! The study also found that vampire bats will regurgitate blood to share with other bats if they’ve gone hungry.
