♻️ ACT Says Goodbye To Single-Use PLASTIC THIS WEEK! ♻️
ACT’s ban on single-use plastic comes in effect this week!
Our nation’s capital is set to role out the first phase of the single-use plastic ban it proposed a few months ago. From July 1st, the territory will no longer sell or distribute single-use plastic cutlery, single-use plastic stirrers, or polystyrene takeaway food and beverage containers.
Businesses are already switching to eco alternatives like bamboo cutlery and optional BYO containers for takeaway food, with the ACT government ready to roll out an awareness campaign to get the movement going.
Penalties will apply to those not abiding by the new ban, though the government is allowing some leeway for the adjustment period. In one year’s time, a new phase will be rolled out, banning more single-use items like straws and produce bags.
