The KOALA Is Our Animal Of The Week!
Could @chrishemsworth bring Tasmanian Tigers back to life? He’s reportedly funding this very special project! Almost one hundred years ago, Tasmanian Tiger’s were hunted to near extinction… But in just ten years, we could look at a tiny baby Tassie Tiger, birthed by their close relative, the Fat-Tailed Dunnart! And it’s all thanks to @itiscolossal DNA extraction from the preserved Thylacine specimens at the @tasmuseum. (Plus funding from the Hemsworth brothers ) Or should we instead invest in exploring Tasmania Tiger sightings in Tasmania and surrounding areas? “The evidence keeps mounting and something needs to be done. With a bit more investigation we can prove the thylacine is still out there.” said Neil Waters, of the @TheThylacineAwarenessGroupOfAustralia. Do you think this could be the answer to our extinction problem? Or are we repeating Jurassic Park’s mistakes? Debate in the comments below
Our animal of the week is the koala!
Did you know that koalas eat up to 1kg of eucalyptus leaves every day, which are actually poisonous! But, they have a special organ called a cerum that helps them to safely break down the leaves. Despite the rumours, eucalyptus doesn’t actually make them ‘high’. The reason they get so sleepy is because the leaves are so low in nutrients that they have to conserve energy!
